IT Salary Review 2009

Prior to the downturn, the IT sector enjoyed six to seven years of good growth as it recovered from the bursting of the dot–com bubble in the late 1990s. Experienced professionals with good IT skills, especially if they were combined with a savvy business sense, were in high demand.

But while there are signs the most talented of IT workers remain highly sought after, the onset of the downturn has chipped away at the confidence of many in the sector, with a sizeable minority exhibiting high levels of concern about job security. Many have seen redundancies made in their organisations and have been directly affected by staff restructuring and change programmes.

As for employers – there is an opportunity here to retain your best staff, rather than lose talent and knowledge from your organization.
